Reiki In Depth
Reiki is both the description of energy, as well as a treatment for health and well being.
As originally described by Dr. Mikao Usui (developer of Reiki, as we know it), Reiki is first and foremost Universal Energy.
This energy permeates everything, is intelligent, and can be directed by our thoughts and observations.
Whether Usui, or anyone in pre-modern times, had the scientific means to explain all this, was unimportant. They went by the simple fact of whether people got well or not.
When something worked, it would be expanded upon, and when it didn't, the best means possible were used to figure out why it didn't. Not much different than now, except we use "tools" to detect energy and Quantum Physics to explain it.
Besides figuring out the best places to put his hands on people when treating them, Usui had the foresight to realize that others could be taught what he knew and was doing. He did this, and the people his students treated also experienced the same dramatic improvements in their health.
Usui then made another important discovery. Even though people became well, they didn't change their habits, especially how they thought, spoke, or acted. Soon they were affected by something again. This was, in essence, The Law of Attraction. To educate and encourage people the best way to maintain good health and well being, Usui developed the Five Precepts, as common sense guidelines.
The Five Precepts, or principles, are:
Just for today (present moment, where all potential is)
Do not worry (past or future, not present - lowers immunity, among other things)
Do not anger (inability to deal appropriately with issue - lowers immunity, raises heart rate and blood pressure)
Honor your parents, teachers, and elders (respect - sets up a similar vibration to attract that back to you )
Earn your living honestly (don't take advantage of others or create a false sense of better/less than)
Show gratitude for every living thing (appreciation for the Source/same energy we're all made from)
It was, and still is, observed that people who practice these simple precepts and use Reiki, experience both short and long term improvements in many areas. This includes improved mental outlook, better immunity, balance of digestive processes and emotions, normalization of blood pressure, heart rate and nervous system responses, decreased stress, and an increased sense of overall well being.
Since Reiki is non invasive, any imbalance can be treated with it. This is also why Reiki is such a great adjunct to any other form of treatment or therapy. While no one system can claim to be a cure all, it's a known fact that when a person is de-stressed, many health issues seem to vanish. The body is an amazing structure, and has great capacity to have homeostasis, or natural balance/be healthy, especially when supported and nurtured
Support and nurturing comes from the proper flow of information, and we know this is especially true when physical and/or healthy intentful touch is involved. A Reiki practitioner is in a balanced and grounded state, which allows higher vibrational energy to flow through them - contacting, reminding, and encouraging who/whatever they're treating to remember their natural state.
Science knows when a higher frequency is established, it's very difficult, if not impossible to maintain a lower one. Energy prefers to be in it's natural higher state, and communicating with similar energy. (The Law of Attraction and The Law of Equals.) This is why "energy medicine" (especially Reiki) has become so popular and now being practiced even in traditional medical circles.
